Romney: I’m the Ideal Tea Party Candidate

Alternate headline: Romney campaign to unveil breakthrough memory erasing technology - Michelle Malkin
Mitt Romney said today he’s “the ideal candidate” for the Tea Party movement because his stance on issues lines up “pretty darn well” with the movement he says will soon realize that GOP frontrunner Newt Gingrich isn’t their best option for president.

“I recognize that the speaker has a big lead here,” Romney said of Gingrich in a press conference in South Carolina. “But I think as people take a closer and closer look, they’ll recognize that I reflect more effectively the positions which they hold on key issues.

Parental Rights Amendment

As some of you are probably already aware, a Parental Rights Amendment is slated to be introduced into congress in the near future. Its purpose is to make clear in law that, "The liberty of parents to direct the upbringing and education of their children is a fundamental right."

The Parental Rights Amendment is largely a response to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), a disturbing piece of UN legislation that would give the government new legal authority to overrule parents' decisions about their children's upbringing and would require that all children be raised to respect the principles of the UN. The Convention would also bind the government to enforce a number of outrageous "rights" of children, such as "freedom to...receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds...through any other media of the child's choice." The UNCRC will likely be ratified by the United States, and even if not ratified, may be applied through the courts as "customary international law."

Without the Parental Rights Amendment, families would be at the mercy of international laws like the UNCRC, as well as the domestic threats posed by Big Government liberals. The Parental Rights Amendment formalizes a long held right of the American people to raise their families without undue government intrusion. More information about both the Parental Rights Amendment and the UNCRC is available at www.parentalrights.org. Please take a quick moment to call Representative Thompson at 202-225-3311. Tell him, "I know that a Parental Rights Amendment is about to be introduced into congress, and I want to encourage Mr. Thompson to support it when it is."

Thank you!

Colin Powell Blames Media and Tea Party for Divisive Tone in Washington

It goes without saying that I very much agree with Powell's point concerning the media's role in the political divide in the nation. - Noel Sheppard/Newsbusters

However, although the question was asked by Amanpour, any discussion of the Tea Party's involvement in the current tone should certainly have involved the Occupy Wall Street movement and what its participants both overt and covert are doing.

This is particularly important given the press's adoration for a group so antagonistic to the most successful members of the society.

Also missing in this segment was how a president and a political Party that are stoking the flames of class envy fit into the current caustic environment.

When the leader of the nation continually talks about the rich not paying their "fair share" - doing so in a fashion that defies any knowledge of the current tax code as well as who's actually paying most of the costs associated with the federal government - this has as much to do with the divisive tone as anything else if not more.

Not at all surprisingly, this wasn't addressed by Amanpour or Powell.

Second Michigan Democrat pleads no contest in ‘fake’ tea party scheme

Former Oakland County Democratic party official Jason Bauer pleaded no contest Monday to five felony charges related to an alleged 2010 plan to place "fake" tea party candidates on multiple election ballots in Michigan, the Detroit Free Press reports. - Yahoo! News

Under the alleged scheme, dummy third-party tea party candidates would help siphon conservative votes away from Republican candidates. The resulting split in the conservative vote would, according to the plan, boost the candidate on the Democratic ballot. Several of the people listed as tea party candidates said they didn't even know that they had been listed on the ballots, the newspaper reports.

Bauer, the former operations director for the Oakland County Democrats, was charged in March with corruption in the tea party case, together with the county Democratic chairman, Mike McGuinness. Other related charges in the case included forging signatures on candidate affidavits and perjury. Bauer drew an additional charge of notary fraud in his indictment. McGuinness pleaded no contest to two felony charges last month.

Adding insult to felony for the two defendants, the alleged Oakland County scheme wasn't even successful. The state Supreme Court disqualified the phony local tea-party slate prior to the elections.

With the rise of the tea party in 2010, similar accusations of scheming Democratic officials backing bogus tea party candidates cropped up across the country.

Tea Parties go on Offensive, Begin Taking Legal Action Against Cities Enabling #Occupy Mobs

The Richmond tea party is demanding a refund of about $10,000 from the city, claiming it unfairly charged them for rallies while allowing the Occupy protesters to use the same space for several weeks for free. - Pat Dollard

Atlanta Tea Party co-founder Julianne Thompson told Channel 2 Action News that the group, which supports limited taxes and reduced government deficits, has made a request in writing after being denied permission to hold an event downtown because city officials said there was too much red tape and cost involved.

“I think it’s very sad that in the city of Atlanta, we seem to have a mayor who picks and chooses who receives special rights regarding free speech — based on his political ideology,” Thompson told Channel 2.

Debbie Dooley, national coordinator of the Tea Party Patriots, told the AJC that the group had inquired about renting Woodruff Park or Centennial Olympic park but had decided against it due to fees, red tape and restrictions.

If Tea Party members had used civil disobedience, “we would have been removed and arrested,” Dooley said.

“We feel like the mayor is selectively deciding who can use the parks,” she said.

Tea Party wants same treatment as #OccupyAtlanta and #OccupyRichmond

Tea Party organizers are threatening to sue the city of Atlanta, saying Mayor Kasim Reed has given special treatment to Occupy Atlanta protesters. - Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Atlanta Tea Party co-founder Julianne Thompson told Channel 2 Action News that the group, which supports limited taxes and reduced government deficits, has made a request in writing after being denied permission to hold an event downtown because city officials said there was too much red tape and cost involved.

"I think it's very sad that in the city of Atlanta, we seem to have a mayor who picks and chooses who receives special rights regarding free speech -- based on his political ideology," Thompson told Channel 2.

Debbie Dooley, national coordinator of the Tea Party Patriots, told the AJC that the group had inquired about renting Woodruff Park or Centennial Olympic park but had decided against it due to fees, red tape and restrictions.

If Tea Party members had used civil disobedience, "we would have been removed and arrested," Dooley said.

"We feel like the mayor is selectively deciding who can use the parks," she said.

The Tea Party members say Reed should grant them a special executive order -- as he did for Occupy Atlanta -- allowing an outdoor event last past 11 p.m.

Tea Party to Mayor: Make ‘Occupy Richmond’ Pay Up - Washington CBS

Richmond Tea Party spokeswoman Colleen Owens told CBS Washington that the protesters have been given special treatment and free reign of the park and have not had to comply with the strict liability and security provisions that the city required of a Tea Party Tax Day in 2009.

As the person in charge of the 2009 event, Owens said Richmond officials dictated the number of police and emergency personnel they were required to have on site and required a $1 million liability policy to protect the city. Owens said that when a Tea Party member decided to call the mayor’s office to see if the protesters had required any of the necessary permits for the park, the city said that “Occupy Richmond” didn’t have any requirements for them to protest and stay overnight in Kanawha Plaza.

“We’re forced to comply with the laws, but yet they don’t have to,” she said. “That’s such a blatantly unequal application of the laws.”

#OccupyWallStreet is no tea party

The media chorus is singing a new song this week in its anti-tea party echo chamber. It goes something like this: The law-breaking anarchists who want to tear America down are somehow just like law-abiding tea partiers — who are working tirelessly to build America back up. - Politico

...The tea party movement started spontaneously from the rant of CNBC’s Rick Santelli on Feb. 19, 2009. His words resonated with millions across the country, and his spontaneous call for a “tea party” spurred tens of thousands to action.

Within a week, in close to 50 locations across the country, almost 40,000 people turned out to protest the U.S. government’s fiscal irresponsibility. By Tax Day in April 2009, the movement had grown to millions — and there were more than 850 peaceful, lawful protests across the nation attended by more than a million people.

The movement was organic, fast moving and had a cogent message: It’s time for fiscal responsibility in government.

Tea party rallies have always felt like “parties” — and safe and clean ones at that. Unlike protesters in New York, I can find no reports of tea partiers being arrested, individually or en masse, at the thousands of tea parties across the country with millions of attendees that have taken place for years now.... Tea Party Tells #OccupyWallStreet: We’re Patriots, You’re a Mob

Tea party activists have gone on the offensive against anti-Wall Street demonstrators just a day before the New York protest threatens to come to a head. - Newsmax

In the run-up to Friday’s possible confrontation, conservatives are increasingly trying to point out the differences between the tea party and what columnist Ann Coulter called the “flea party” because its supporters are “wingless, bloodsucking, and parasitic.”

Tea Party Express Chairwoman Amy Kremer said she is “offended” that the media portrays the two groups as mirror images of each other.

“I see no similarities,” she said in a fundraising letter. “The OWS crowd have had thousands of arrests, have harassed citizens trying to go to work and do their jobs, have had confrontations with law enforcement and destroyed public property.

“They are a disorganized unruly mob of shiftless protesters that has been reinforced by union and organized labor thugs,” she added.

“Their goal has been to cause as much disruption as possible and force anarchy.

“In contrast, there have been thousands of peaceful and respectful tea party rallies across the USA over the past three years,” she said. “The Tea Party Express alone has hosted over 301 and there has not been one arrest or incident of violence. We say a prayer, recite the pledge of allegiance and sing the national anthem before each rally.”

Brendan Steinhauser of the grass-roots conservative organization FreedomWorks told Newsmax the difference between the two groups is clear. He pointed out that, when the tea party movement blossomed in 2009, “No one was assaulted, no one trashed the place, no one relieved themselves on cop cars because we respect private property rights and we respect public property rights.

“In the entire history of the tea party movement, I’m not aware of over a handful of arrests. And these guys have easily had a thousand or more.

Media Coverage: Tea Party v. #OccupyWallStreet

There are many differences between the tea party and the “Occupy Wall Street” movement, but perhaps the most significant is this: on Election Day, tea partiers will make it to the polls to vote while many of the “Occupy Wall Street” protesters will be to busy smoking weed to remember to cast a ballot.

I know that may sound juvenile, but it is hardly off base.

Having visited with Washington, D.C.’s version of the “Occupy Wall Street” protests on multiple occasions, it is abundantly clear we are not dealing with a new phenomenon. We are dealing with a usual left-wing protest composed of a smorgasbord of focuses.

TEA PARTIERS ‘INVADE’ OCCUPY D.C. PROTEST…AND THIS IS THE VIDEO

Tea partyers scoff at ‘#Occupy’ comparisons

Tea party leaders are openly rejecting attempts to liken the #OccupyWallStreet protest to their movement, saying that the two groups are heading in opposite directions. - Washington Times

While tea partyers say they yearn for the nation to return to its founding principles, Mark Meckler, co-founder of the Tea Party Patriots, one of the largest such groups in the nation, said the Occupy protesters in New York, Washington and other cities across the country “severely dislike our country’s founding principles.”

“We’re a country founded, from an economic system point of view, on free-market capitalism,” Mr. Meckler said. “These folks are intensely offended by free-market capitalism.”

Van Jones’ Tea Party Envy

◼ Front Page Magazine: Of all that the Tea Party has accomplished, perhaps the movement’s most unlikely achievement to date is the admiration it has inspired on the activist Left. Disillusioned with President Obama and the rapid dissipation of a long-term left-wing dominance that Obama’s victory was supposed to usher in, left-wing activists and commentators have come to look upon the Tea Party as a model to revive their faded political fortunes.

Speaking for many on the Left, Washington Post columnist Richard Cohen recently acknowledged, “I suffer from Tea Party envy.” Similarly, the disgruntled twenty-somethings taking part in the Occupy Wall Street campaign have styled their protests as a left-wing and anti-capitalist version of the Tea Party. The latest left-wing admirer of the Tea Party is none other than Van Jones, the disgraced former Obama administration official who was ousted from his post as green jobs czar following revelations of his radical past, which included signing a 9/11 “Truther” petition. Time off from professional politics has afforded Van Jones an opportunity to reflect, and like many on the Left he has concluded that in order to regain their relevance, progressives must take a page from the Tea Party’s playbook. However, some in the Tea Party are not sure if Lewis has much of a chance to defeat the incumbent because the bulk of his campaign seems to be focusing on Boehner voting for a federal budget that included funding for Planned Parenthood.

Humboldt Tea Party Patriots - About Us

Democrats need a spine to stand up to tea party

Democrats have been their usual hapless, communicatively-challenged selves, the congressional equivalent of the kid in school who walks around all day with “Kick Me” taped to his back, then wonders why people keep kicking him. - Leonard Pitts Jr./Miami Herald

I am pleased to report the sighting of an artifact so rarely seen among Democrats that it has become the stuff of legend and conjecture, like Bigfoot or the Loch Ness monster. It is called a spine.

Said spine was briefly glimpsed a little over a week ago at a “jobs summit” in Inglewood, Calif. in the person of Rep. Maxine Waters. “I’m not afraid of anybody,” the California Democrat said. “. . . And as far as I’m concerned, the ‘tea party’ can go straight to Hell.”

California’s Gardasil mandate moves forward

◼ Michelle Malkin: The California legislature is quietly pushing forward with a sweeping proposal to mandate that Gardasil — the vaccine marketed as a shield against the sexually transmitted human papillomavirus (HPV) — can be dispensed by the state to children as young as 12 without the permission of their parents.

...the legislation had been voted out of the state Senate Appropriations Committee by 6-3. There were no witnesses or testimony at the hearing. The bill, AB 499, had previously been suspended over cost concerns. Now, it is expected to head quickly to the Senate floor for a full vote this week and supporters believe Democratic California Gov. Jerry Brown will sign it.

In California: Contempt for Voters in Senate Move on Amazon Tax

The maneuver in the Senate Appropriations Committee yesterday to undercut the referendum on the Amazon tax legislation is a glaring example of the contempt with which legislators hold the people's right of initiative and referendum. - Joel Fox at Fox & Hounds

...The process is an integral part of the checks and balances system giving the people control over their government. Clearly, some legislators don't want the voters making decisions at the ballot box on actions taken by the legislature.

Amazon.com challenged a new law that requires online retailers to collect sales tax. A referendum was filed to put the issue before the voters. According to the Los Angeles Times, signature gatherers "already are off the streets, having met their goal well before the Sept. 27 deadline for turning in completed petitions."

To foil this process, Senator Loni Hancock pulled what amounts to a parliamentary parlor trick by gutting a bill and substituting language similar to the wording in the original tax law calling the revised bill an "urgency" measure. The constitution declares that an urgency measure, which requires a two-thirds vote to pass, is immune to a referendum effort.

Every Single One: The Politicized Hiring of Eric Holder’s Compliance Section

For several weeks, PJMedia has been publishing a series of articles on the ideological and partisan histories of attorney hires into the career civil service ranks of the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division in the Obama administration. The articles have demonstrated the political and ideological litmus test being employed by those entrusted with hiring in the Division. - J. Christian Adams/Pajamas Media

Every single new attorney hired has a history thick with left-wing activism.

Obama is saying that the downgrade resulted because the Tea Party had the temerity to debate and question his policies. See, it was a Tea Party downgrade, according to the Democrats' silly rhetoric. It wasn't Obama's record smashing national debt and first-time-ever trillion dollar plus deficits every year in office that caused the debt downgrade.

Tea Partiers of the World, Unite! A New Spirit is Sweeping Over America!....

Or at least, Tea Party Phobia seems to be upsetting political tummies all over DC.

The other week Veep Joe Biden and Senator Kerry were heard shrieking like a pair of old steam whistles. Joe called the Moms and Pops of the Tea Party "terrorists" --- maybe because they inspire terror in Joe when he sobers up enough to read the latest Gallup poll.

As for Kerry, ole' John told Fox News the media weren't supposed to give equal time to the Tea Party.

A Gallup poll now has Tea Party supporters outnumbering the whole Looney Left in the USA. And Stan Greenberg, Bill Clinton's pollster, just wrote that Obama better join the Tea Party if he wants to win next year.

Planning Commission: Marijuana Land Use Ordinance.

There is a planning commission meeting on August 18, 2011, beginning at 6 p.m. This Thursday. On the agenda is Marijuana Land Use Ordinance.

This is Item #1 on the agenda.

The staff recommendation: "Open the public hearing, receive the staff report, supplemental information & public testimony; Deliberate on proposed ordinance revisions and either: 1) continue hearing to date certain and instruct Planning staff as to additional changes requested; or 2) adopt a motion to make the required findings and approve the amendments (with or without changes) and forward the amendments to the Board of Supervisors for their consideration and possible adoption."

One of the items that was holding up the establishment of a "medical" marijuana dispensary in our neighborhood. FYI one is being planned in the Glendale area --location to be next to Murphy's Market in the old mini mart location. The public has not been noticed on this yet....so far only the agencies have been notified on this.

Obama Conversation With Tea Partier Gets Heated

President Obama got into a heated back-and-forth Monday with a Tea Party activist who demanded to know at the end of a town hall meeting here whether Vice President Biden had called Tea Partiers “terrorists” during the debt ceiling debate on Capitol Hill. - FOX

Obama did say he would discuss the matter further with Rhodes, founder of the Iowa Tea Party, after the event. And the duo was spotted in an animated conversation a few moments later.

In an interview later with Fox News, Rhodes claimed that the president had insisted that Biden had not made the original comment.

“He just denied it. He said the vice president didn't make any of those assertions,” Rhodes said. “If he doesn’t want to even admit what was on TV nationally -- all over the place -- then how can you have a conversation?”

Rhodes added that Obama brushed him aside. “Then he said, ‘We can't have a conversation because you're saying I called you a terrorist,’” recalled Rhodes. “The fact is it demonstrates the deep divide that he is unwilling to negotiate without going after the other side. The whole day was about going after Republicans and talking about how unreasonable they are.”

John Kerry and the ‘Tea Party Downgrade’

The “Tea Party downgrade” memo has been successfully circulated. - Michelle Malkin

First up today is John Kerry. It’s some kind of hilarious to watch a big spending, pro bloated government liberal try to come across like a life-long hawk on cutting deficits, shrinking government and tackling the debt problem — if only his hands weren’t tied by those darned anti spending cuts Tea Partiers...

Harry Reid: Yep… That Tea Party’s Going Away Any Day Now…

The days of the Tea Party’s influence on American politics are numbered, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said this weekend. - Michelle Malkin ...somewhat ironically, that if Harry Reid wants to help fast-track a Tea Party breakup, the greatest single contribution he could make would be to resign his Senate seat.

There does seem something very circular about CNN, CBS and NY Times polling showing an increase in negative views of the Tea Party

Report – CNN, CBS and NY Times polls show CNN, CBS and NY Times anti-Tea Party strategy working - Le·gal In·sur·rec·tion The mainstream media spends two years calling the Tea Party movement racist, extremist, sexist, terrorist, and hostage takers, and then acts as if negative polling results reflect something wrong with the Tea Party movement rather than their own biased reporting.

August 25th Carolyn Crnich will be our guest speaker

When the history of the Great Debt Ceiling Debate of 2011 gets written, the main character will not be a Beltway negotiator, or even a politician.

The only reason Washington has even talked about proposals to slow the growth of government spending, instead of robotically jacking up the nation's credit line for the 11th time in a decade, is that a large, decentralized group of citizen activists has spent the last few years loudly telling politicians from both parties one consistent message: Restrain your own power or face our wrath. - pittsburghlive.com

Boehner did not hold the line in debt-ceiling negotiations out of any evident sense of principle. He did it because the tea party helped send more than 90 brand-spanking-new representatives and senators to Washington last fall, and those people are talking and acting differently from the 21st-century Republicans Americans have grown to hate. He knows that if he continues to disrespect the limited-government tradition, these activists will punish him and his party come 2012.

This is the enduring lesson of the tea party, and it's one that any sort of political group would do well to emulate: By refusing to be cowed by one of the major parties, and promising to inflict damage if its aims are ignored, this grassroots uprising shows how political independents can force mainstream parties to do their bidding.

In a country where the single largest political affiliation is now neither Democrat nor Republican but "independent" (38 percent, according to Gallup; 37 percent, according to the Pew Research Center) and where a whole generation of Americans has grown up fluent in the online skills that are disrupting incumbents in all other walks of life, the political winds seem to be blowing in the same direction: away from dominant political tribes that are justifiably leaking market share and toward individuals who are fed up with bipartisan logjams that produce asinine policies.

Fact One -- Tea Partiers' opposition to tax hikes didn't bring us to this brink. Washington's indifference to spending did.
Fact Two -- Tea Partiers didn't create these deficits. Washington did.
Fact Three -- Tea Partiers didn't wreck the budget this year. Try Democrats, who had total control of Washington, not even offering a budget at all... last year.
Fact Four -- Tea Partiers aren't the reason we're up against another debt limit. Washington is....
Fact Eight -- Tea Partiers aren't the crazy ones for saying it's time to stop this nonsense. Those who call them crazy for dare speaking the obvious are the ones who make "no" sense....

Rasmussen: Tea Party Vote Could Kill GOP

In a three-way congressional contest with a tea party candidate on the ballot, the Democrat could pick up 40 percent of the vote. The Republican would get 21 percent support, while 18 percent would opt for the tea party candidate. Just over 20 percent remain undecided... - Newsmax
In the new survey, the tea party candidate draws 28 percent support from GOP voters, while 85 percent of Democrats back their party’s candidate. Just 45 percent of Republicans support the Republican candidate in the three-way matchup. Among voters not affiliated with either of the major parties, 15 percent like the Republican, 29 percent the Democrat and 25 percent the tea party candidate....

A message from the Staten Island Tea Party - June 10, 2011: ...we have succeeded. In a victory no less stunning than last year's congressional race, the Staten Island Tea Party has accomplished the goal of placing hundreds of its members on the Republican County Committee - a large bloc of independent committee members who share tea party values. Our goal? To support those men and women who support those values....

Tea party 2012 effect stirs GOP trepidation

Tea party 2012 effect stirs GOP trepidation - Washington Times
Republicans, once ecstatic about the energy generated by the 2009 anti-spending tea party uprising, are growing increasingly uneasy about the impact in 2012 of a movement that seems beyond the control of anyone, including its own leaders.

“The nature of the tea party and liberty movement is that there really are very few, if any, authoritative spokespersons,” said Ryan Call,Colorado GOP chairman.

“The fact that the grass-roots movement is somewhat leaderless is one of its strengths, but it also makes the movement susceptible to individuals or groups co-opting the ‘tea party label in inappropriate and damaging ways, like we saw in the May 24 New York 26th [Congressional] District special election.”

Some Tea Party Freshmen Still Adjusting to D.C. Politics

Some Tea Party Freshmen Still Adjusting to D.C. Politics
USA TODAY interviewed Noem and other Tea Party-supported freshmen in Congress to gauge how they were transitioning from their 2010 campaigns, where they promised to change Washington, to actual governing in D.C.

Noem, one of two freshmen who act as liaisons between House leadership and the 93-member freshman class, echoes some of her colleagues who don't appear intimidated by working in the nation's capital.

"I'm not a freshman. I'm just new in Congress," said Rep. David McKinley, who served in the West Virginia House of Delegates and later as the GOP state party chairman before his election to Congress last year.

Arizona mulls 'Don't Tread On Me' license plate

Arizona tea party supporters would have a new way of showing their affinity for the movement under a bill sent to Gov. Jan Brewer on Wednesday that creates a special "Don't Tread On Me" license plate.
The plate would feature the rattlesnake emblem and yellow background of the historic Gadsden Flag that is a symbol of the tea party movement. Opponents said the plate inappropriately promotes a specific political movement. Supporters said it's meant to stand up for constitutional principles.

The measure creating the plate and two others won final legislative approval late Tuesday in a 22-8 vote by the Senate. The House earlier passed it.

Andrew Breitbart's new book Righteous Indignation: Excuse Me While I Save the World! is out.
Available at Amazon: Known for his network of conservative websites that draws millions of readers everyday, Andrew Breitbart has one main goal: to make sure the "liberally biased" major news outlets in this country cover all aspects of a story fairly. Breitbart is convinced that too many national stories are slanted by the news media in an unfair way.

In RIGHTEOUS INDIGNATION, Breitbart talks about the key issues that Americans face, how he has aligned himself with the Tea Party, and how one needs to deal with the liberal news world head on. Along the way, he details his early years, working with Matt Drudge, the Huffington Post, and so on, and how Breitbart developed his unique style of launching key websites to help get the word out to conservatives all over.

A rollicking and controversial read, Breitbart will certainly raise your blood pressure, one way or another.

Andrew Breitbart is the creator of Breitbart.com, Breitbart.tv, Big Hollywood and Big Government. His new website, Big Journalism, launched in December 2009. His websites get millions of hits everyday.

SCHUMER TO TEA PARTY: YOU ARE A FLEA...

Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) compared House conservatives to a flea Friday as rhetoric in the spending fight intensified.

Schumer, who has been criticizing Republicans all day, said in a floor speech Friday that conservatives were the flea controlling the dog, which he said in this case is a federal government that could shut down at midnight.

“What we have here is a flea, wagging a tail, wagging a dog,” said Schumer, chairman of the Senate Democratic Policy Committee.
“The flea are the minority of House Republicans who are hard right, the tail is the House Republican caucus, and the dog is the government,” Schumer explained. “That flea is influencing what the dog does ... and it is sad....”

Tea Party Activists are in Position to Challenge Green Groups at the State Level

Tea Party Activists are in Position to Challenge Green Groups at the State Level - NetRightDaily
Thanks to the ingenuity and vision of key activists who are going local rather than fixating on Washington, D.C., the Tea Party is in position to challenge the power and influence of state level green groups. For decades, well-funded environmental activists have operated at expense of industrial development and private landowners without any meaningful response.

But in the time that has elapsed since the 2010 elections, average citizens and elected officials who are connected with the Tea Party have oriented themselves against green pressure groups. This approach is very much in keeping with the advice of Ned Ryun, executive director of American majority, a grassroots organization headquartered in Va., has the right idea. He recommends that the Tea Party take full advantage of its decentralized structure and burrow in locally....

"I not real optimistic, no, I'm not," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., told reporters on Tuesday. "I think that the Tea Party is driving what goes on in the House of Representatives. And we cannot do what they want done."

Government shutdown looms as budget talks stall - Susan Ferrechio

Tea Party presses GOP to get tough on budget cuts

Tea Party presses GOP to get tough on budget cuts - Susan Ferrechio/Washington Examiner
As Tea Party activists rallied across the street from the Capitol, Republican leaders pledged they would fight to include $61 billion in budget cuts in a funding deal needed to prevent a government shutdown.
The latest negotiations between Democrats and Republicans are centered around a compromise that would cut just $33 billion from this year's budget, which runs through September. But that number is not sitting well with many in the GOP, who pledged during last year's campaign to cut deeper.

Fiscally conservative Republicans, including dozens of freshmen backed by the Tea Party, have signaled they do not want to accept a budget deal with less than the $61 billion in cuts passed earlier by the House and they are pressuring House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, to hold out for more.

"We want to be as bold as we can," said Rep. Joe Walsh, R-Ill., a conservative freshman and Tea Party activist. "There is a strong sentiment that this fight is not inconsequential. Everybody I'm talking to on this side of the aisle is saying we are ready to have a fight on that number - $61 billion."

Blame the Tea Party...

Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y. coordinates Dem budget attack on GOP - washingtonexaminer
Schumer instructed the group, made up of Sens. Barbara Boxer of California, Tom Carper of Delaware, Ben Cardin of Maryland and Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, to tell reporters that the GOP is refusing to negotiate.

He told the group to make sure they label the GOP spending cuts as "extreme."

"I always use extreme, Schumer said. "That is what the caucus instructed me to use."

Budget Talks Sour, Dems Blame Tea Party for Stalemate as Deadline Looms (image source) FOX
Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., also took to the floor Tuesday to accuse the Tea Party of scuttling negotiations over a spending package.

Republicans fired back, preemptively pinning blame on the Democrats for a possible government shutdown while singling out Hoyer and Schumer for their comments Tuesday.

"Senator Schumer is not part of the (budget) negotiations, and he is making up fairy tales trying to derail serious discussions on funding the government and cutting spending, because he believes his party would benefit from a government shutdown," said Mike Steel, spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio.

"At this point, the House has passed a bill to fund the government through the end of the year while cutting spending. The Senate has not -- and Senator Schumer's inaccurate rants won't change that," Steel said.

The Tea Party also hit back at Schumer.

"While Chuck Schumer and the Democratic caucus have been busy in a backroom crafting their 'blame the Tea Party' talking points, according to Rasmussen, 69 percent of Americans remain 'angry' or 'very angry' with the government," said Mark Meckler, national coordinator of the Tea Party Patriots.

"Why? It's not that complicated, and it's definitely not because the American public thinks the government isn't spending enough money," he added. "It's because the majority of the American voters sent a clear message to Washington D.C. in November to get their fiscal house in order, and to make the cuts that will put this country on a sustainable path. Clearly people like Chuck Schumer didn't listen."
Schumer: who is “in the box”? - Roger L. Simon
Chuck Schumer Caught Rehearsing Extreme, Extreme, Extreme Talking Points
The key point is less about the message coordination and more about Schumer scheming to shut the government down, and preparing a rehearsed justification for it, claiming it's the other guys who won't negotiate.
Howard Dean: Gov’t Shutdown Would Be the ‘Best Thing in the World’
“If I was head of DNC, I would be quietly rooting for it,” said Dean, speaking on a National Journal Insider’s Conference panel Tuesday morning. “I know who’s going to get blamed – we’ve been down this road before.”

“From a partisan point of view, I think it would be the best thing in the world to have a shutdown,” said Dean. He added that as a statesman, he is not rooting for a shutdown because of its harmful effect on the country.

Schumer Coordinates Dem Budget Attack on GOP
Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., a member of the Democratic Senate leadership, got on a conference call with reporters Tuesday morning without realizing the reporters were already listening in. Schumer thought he was on a private line with four Democratic senators who were to talk with reporters about the current budget stalemate.

PG&E SmartMeter opt-out Option would cost customers hundreds in upfront charges

PG&E offers SmartMeter opt-out plan
Eureka resident Beverly Filip doesn't own a microwave oven, has never used a cell phone and relies solely on Ethernet cables to access the Internet from her home. Soon, Filip might also be able to rid her house of the radiation from her Smart-Meter, installed by Pacific Gas and Electric Co. last year. But if a recent opt-out plan proposed by the utility is approved by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), the decision would nearly double Filip's monthly energy bill and cost her hundreds of dollars in up-front charges. "I think it's ridiculous," Filip said of the plan, which offers existing customers a handful of payment options in order to have a PG&E technician turn off the device's wireless transmitter, which some claim produces harmful side effects.

Under the plan, which the utility submitted to the CPUC last Thursday, customers would be required to pay an up-front charge to have the transmitter shut off along w ith a monthly fee. For customers not enrolled in the CARE discount program, opting out would cost either $270 or $135, with an additional monthly fee of $20 for the lower up-front fee or $14 a month for the higher fee...
